Do you need Petcube Care? Optimal vs Premium

Decide whether Petcube Care is worth it by comparing live viewing, Optimal and Premium features, multi-camera coverage and when Basic is enough.

Petcube cameras can live stream without a paid plan. Petcube Care is the optional service that adds cloud history, smart alerts and related extras. The useful question is not "Is Care good?" It is "Will I open a live stream when something happens, or do I need a record afterward?"

Checked: October 1, 2026. Care plan names, prices, history lengths, trial terms and partner perks can change. Confirm them on Petcube's Care page and in the app before subscribing.

The short answer

Stay on Basic (live viewing only) if you mainly check in on purpose and do not need a timeline later. Choose Optimal when one camera needs a few days of history plus smart alerts. Choose Premium when you want longer history, unlimited downloads, Care features across multiple cameras on one account, or the listed Premium extras such as the longer warranty and online vet chat.

Care is not the same as the Petcube GPS Tracker cellular plan, and it is not the Emergency Fund. Budget each product for the job it actually does.

Basic, Optimal and Premium at a glance

Petcube's Care page divides camera service into a free Basic tier plus paid Optimal and Premium plans. Support material describes Optimal around three days of cloud history and Premium around ninety days, with smart alerts and related extras on paid plans.

When checked, Petcube's US Care page showed Optimal at $9.99 per month, or $59.88 total for a yearly plan, and Premium at $16.99 per month, or $143.88 total yearly. The yearly cards also showed lower per-month equivalents. Treat those figures as a snapshot. Hardware bundles sometimes advertise different Care starting prices; read the exact offer in checkout.

Petcube also says a 14-day Care trial comes with a camera purchase. Trial billing and cancellation details belong in the app and checkout for your order.

What you get without Care

Without Care, Petcube says you can still use live video streaming from a supported camera. You can hear the room and use two-way audio. What you should not expect is a cloud video timeline, smart bark or motion alerts, or browser history playback.

That can be enough for a lunchtime peek at a crate or sofa. It fails when you are in a meeting, miss the moment, and later need to know why the dog barked.

When Optimal is enough

Optimal makes sense when one indoor camera is the whole setup and you mostly care about recent events. Petcube lists three days of history, smart alerts, a web interface, limited downloads and Daily Diary-style highlights on that tier, along with the standard one-year warranty framing on the Care page.

Choose Optimal if:

  • You have one main camera aimed at a bed, gate or open room.
  • A few days of clips answer your questions.
  • You want push alerts without paying for long archive storage.

Skip Optimal if you already know you will run two or three cameras with history on each. In that case, compare Premium's multi-camera terms before stacking separate lower plans.

When Premium changes the maths

Petcube's support material says Premium can cover unlimited connected cameras on one account with Premium features such as ninety days of history, unlimited downloads, smart alerts and filters, and a two-year hardware warranty. Online vet chat is also listed on Premium marketing.

That matters more than the headline monthly price when you are planning a bundle. One Premium subscription can be cheaper than repeating history needs across several cameras, but only if you truly need saved clips in more than one room.

Premium is the better fit when:

  • Separate floors or closed rooms each need a camera with history.
  • You want a longer timeline than a few days.
  • You download clips often.
  • The listed Premium warranty or vet-chat perk is part of your decision.

Premium is still optional for live viewing. It does not turn a camera into veterinary diagnosis, and alerts are not a substitute for a person who can respond in person.

Common mix-ups to avoid

ProductWhat it is forWhat it is not
Petcube CareOptional camera history and alerts.A GPS location service.
Tracker subscriptionCellular location for the GPS Tracker.Indoor video history.
Emergency FundSeparate membership with a wait and payout limits.Care cloud storage.

If you are still choosing hardware, compare Cam vs Cam 360 or Cam vs Bites 2 Lite before locking in a Care tier.

Who should pay for Care?

Pay for Care if missing a bark, visitor or pacing episode would change what you do next, and you cannot reliably open the live stream in time. Stay on Basic if intentional check-ins already answer the question. Upgrade to Premium when multiple cameras or a longer archive are part of a clear plan, not as a default add-on.

Frequently asked questions

Does every Petcube camera need Care?

No. Petcube says cameras work for live streaming without a subscription. Care adds history and alert features.

Is Optimal or Premium better?

Optimal suits one camera and short history. Premium suits longer history, heavier downloads and multi-camera accounts under Petcube's stated Premium terms.

Is the Care trial the same as the Emergency Fund wait?

No. Petcube describes a Care trial with camera purchase separately from the Emergency Fund's mandatory waiting period and payout rules.

Can Care locate a dog that left the garden?

No. That is a GPS tracking problem. See GPS tracker costs and fit.
