Petcube Cam: price, Care costs and Wi-Fi setup

What Petcube Cam includes without a plan, what Petcube Care adds, and the Wi-Fi, power and placement checks worth making before you buy.

Petcube Cam is a small indoor camera for checking in on a dog from the Petcube app. The camera itself gives you live video. Video history, smart alerts and browser playback come through the optional Petcube Care plan. That split matters more than the sale price.

Checked: October 5, 2026. US prices, offers, plan features, app requirements and store terms can change. Confirm them in Petcube's checkout and app before paying.

The short answer

Petcube Cam makes sense if you want a fixed view of the room where your dog actually rests or gets into mischief, and you have dependable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi there. It is a straightforward camera, not a roaming camera. You choose the angle before leaving, then view the live stream in the app.

The catch is simple. Live viewing is included, but the features that turn a camera into a record of the day cost extra. If you want clips saved after a bark, motion event or visitor, include Petcube Care in the budget from the start.

What to checkPetcube CamWhy it matters
Video1080p HD, 110-degree wide-angle view, 8x digital zoomA wide view helps in one room, but it cannot see around furniture or through a doorway.
SoundTwo-way full-duplex audioYou can hear the room and speak through the camera. Do not assume your dog will find the sound reassuring.
Night viewUp to 30 feet, according to PetcubeUseful in a dark room, but not a replacement for checking the camera's actual sightline.
Connection2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, with 2 Mbps upload recommendedThe camera needs power and a steady local connection. It does not use cellular data on its own.
Size60.6 x 54 x 81.78 mmSmall enough for a shelf, wall or ceiling placement, but still needs a cable route your dog cannot reach.
SubscriptionOptionalLive streaming works without Care. History, smart alerts and other features depend on the Care plan.

When checked, Petcube's US Cam product page showed one Cam at $31.99, reduced from $34.99. That is a store snapshot, not a promised price. Use the Petcube Cam product page for the current price, bundles and delivery options. With yearly Optimal Care at $59.88, a first-year floor is $91.87 before tax and shipping.

What you get before paying for Petcube Care

The free camera service is live viewing in the Petcube app. You can open the stream remotely, listen to the room and use the two-way audio. Petcube says the camera can also be shared with family or friends through the app, with permissions chosen by the account holder.

That may be enough if your real question is, "Is the dog on the sofa, asleep in the crate, or chewing something they should not?" You need to open the app while the event is happening. Without a recording plan, there is no timeline to replay later.

Petcube says the Cam can be used without a monthly subscription. Its product page also says that without Care you do not get cloud storage or smart alerts. Treat the free service as a live peephole, not a security archive.

Petcube Care is where the ongoing cost starts

Petcube Care adds cloud video history, 30-second clips, smart alerts, a web interface and downloads. Petcube's current Care page divides that into a free camera tier plus Optimal and Premium plans.

Plan shown by PetcubePrice shownWhat changes for a Cam owner
BasicFree with every cameraLive video streaming and a one-year warranty, but no video history, smart alerts, web interface or downloads.
Optimal$9.99 monthly, or $59.88 total yearlyThree days of history, smart alerts, a web interface, 10 downloads (reset period unspecified), Daily Diary videos and smart filters.
Premium$16.99 monthly, or $143.88 total yearlyNinety days of history, unlimited downloads, unlimited cameras on one account, a two-year warranty and online vet chats are listed.

The Care plan card does not state when Optimal’s 10-download allowance resets. Do not assume it means ten per month; ask Petcube support to confirm the period for your plan before subscribing.

Petcube also says a 14-day Care trial comes with a camera purchase. Trial availability and billing details belong in the checkout and app, where you can see the terms that apply to your order.

Do not confuse that Care trial with the separate Petcube Emergency Fund membership. The Emergency Fund has its own mandatory 14-day waiting period, approval process and one-time $3,000 yearly limit.

The useful comparison is not free versus paid. It is live viewing versus a saved record. A person who only checks in at lunchtime may be happy with the free service. A person who wants to know why a dog barked while they were in a meeting is paying for history and alerts.

Placement and Wi-Fi decide whether the camera is useful

Wi-Fi preflight: confirm a visible, password-protected 2.4 GHz network reaches the intended spot, have its password ready, and check at least the recommended 2 Mbps upload there. A 5 GHz-only or hidden network can prevent setup. Follow the Cam setup guide for your phone and router.

Petcube lists a magnetic foot and rotating body for wall or ceiling mounting. That flexibility is useful, but it does not fix a poor angle. Place the camera where you can see the bed, crate, gate or doorway that matters. A camera looking across an empty room will not tell you much.

Before ordering, look at three practical details:

  • Power. The box includes a two-metre USB cable and power adapter. Pick a route that keeps the cable out of reach and does not create a trip hazard.
  • Wi-Fi. Petcube lists 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi support and recommends a broadband connection with 2 Mbps upload. Check that signal in the exact room, not just beside the router.
  • The app device. The current product page lists iOS 14 or later and Android 7.1.2 or later. You will use that phone or tablet for setup and viewing.

Petcube's support material describes setup through the app: power the Cam, connect it to the home network and scan a QR code shown on the phone. Its support pages also warn that 5 GHz-only or hidden networks can cause problems. If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name, confirm your network can complete the setup before the return window closes.

Petcube Cam compared with simpler choices

OptionBest forMain trade-off
Petcube Cam without CareA live check-in from one fixed roomNo saved timeline or smart alerts.
Petcube Cam with CarePeople who want clips and notifications after they leave homeAdds an ongoing subscription cost.
A general indoor Wi-Fi cameraWatching a room when pet-specific app features are not importantThe app, storage rules and sharing controls differ by maker.
No camera, with a dog-proofed spaceShort absences where a check-in would not change what you doYou cannot see or review what happened while you were away.

The important thing is not whether a camera has the longest feature list. It is whether it captures the corner of the home and the moments you are actually trying to understand. A simple camera facing a crate can be more useful than a premium camera pointed at the wrong wall.

What looks good, and what needs care

Reasons Petcube Cam may suit your home

  • It offers 1080p live video, two-way audio and night vision in a compact wired camera.
  • Live viewing does not require a Care subscription.
  • The magnetic foot and rotating body give you more placement options than a camera fixed to one stand.
  • Petcube currently lists a 45-day money-back guarantee and a one-year limited warranty for purchases through its store.

Reasons to pause before ordering

  • It needs a nearby power outlet and a reliable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection. It will not keep recording through a home internet outage.
  • The 110-degree view is wide, but it is still one fixed view. Your dog can be out of frame.
  • Saved history and smart alerts are plan features, not part of the free camera service.
  • A camera can help you observe a dog. It cannot replace in-person care, a secure setup or urgent veterinary advice.
  • We have not tested Petcube Cam. Treat feature, range, alert and setup statements as manufacturer information, not BarkOnTrack performance results.

Who should choose Petcube Cam?

It is most likely to fit:

  • People who want to check one dog-safe room while they are at work or out for a short time.
  • Homes with a strong 2.4 GHz signal where the dog spends time.
  • Families who want to share a live camera with a partner, sitter or relative through the app.
  • People who can decide in advance whether they need live viewing only or a paid history plan.

Skip it, or research more before buying, if your home Wi-Fi is unreliable in the room you need to watch, your dog can reach the cable, you need a battery-powered camera, or you want a product that can diagnose health or behaviour. A camera can show you a moment. It cannot explain it on its own.

Frequently asked questions

No. Petcube says the Cam works without a subscription for live video streaming. Petcube Care is optional and adds video history, smart alerts and other plan features.

Does Petcube Cam work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

Does Petcube Cam record video without Care?

Petcube says cloud video storage is not included without Care. You can use live streaming, but you should not expect a saved video timeline unless you choose a plan that includes it.
