Petcube Care Bundle vs buying a Cam: check the 12-month cost
Compare a Petcube Cam purchase with the Care Bundle using dated first-year costs, early cancellation charges and a checklist before committing to a plan.

Buy a Petcube Cam outright if you mainly want live check-ins or are unsure you will keep a paid history plan. Consider the Care Bundle only when you want its included service for a full year and accept the early cancellation terms.
The bundle's "free camera" is tied to a subscription commitment. Compare what leaves your bank account over the year, rather than the hardware line alone. This is a documentation-based buying guide, not a camera test.
The terms that change the decision
Checked October 4, 2026. On Petcube's Care Bundle page, the Cam bundle is $5.99 monthly and the Bites 2 Lite bundle is $9.99 monthly. The offer terms at the bottom require at least 12 monthly renewals.
Those terms say early cancellation or a failed regular payment requires the camera's full price: $39.99 for Cam or $99.95 for Bites 2 Lite. Without regular payment or the camera compensation, live streaming and regular alerts become disabled. After 12 months, cancellation removes history and Smart Alerts while retaining the regular camera functions described in the terms.
That condition deserves more attention than the page's "cancel anytime" headline. Read the terms attached to your actual order and keep a copy before accepting them. The early cancellation amounts differ from current store prices.
Compare the Cam's first-year cash cost
The Cam store page currently shows $31.99 for one camera. The separate Care pricing page lists Optimal at $9.99 monthly or $59.88 paid yearly. Basic live viewing has no subscription charge.
| Route | Calculation | First-year cost |
|---|---|---|
| Cam outright, Basic only | $31.99 hardware | $31.99 |
| Cam outright, annual Optimal | $31.99 + $59.88 | $91.87 |
| Cam outright, 12 monthly Optimal payments | $31.99 + 12 × $9.99 | $151.87 |
| Cam Care Bundle, 12 monthly payments | 12 × $5.99 | $71.88 |
These US-dollar examples exclude tax, shipping, exchange rates, discounts and trial effects. They assume the listed prices remain unchanged and the separate paid plan runs for a full year. The annual route requires its service payment upfront. The bundle has monthly payments with the commitment described above.
The bundle total is $19.99 below the outright-plus-annual example under those assumptions. It is still $39.89 above buying a Cam for live viewing alone. That is why I would settle the need for saved history before choosing the checkout option.
Do not assume the bundle and a separately purchased Optimal plan have identical benefits or renewal rules. Compare the selected offers directly. Our Optimal vs Premium guide explains the separate service tiers.
Choose the purchase route that fits your use
| Your situation | Route to consider | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You check the live feed at lunch | Cam outright with Basic | Paying for a saved timeline may add little value |
| You need clips after work and expect year-round use | Compare the Cam bundle with annual Optimal | Compare commitment and included benefits as well as cost |
| You only want history during a short trip | Cam outright, then compare a short paid subscription | Avoid assuming the bundle is a one-month rental |
| You already own a suitable Petcube camera | Compare service alone | Another camera may solve no additional problem |
| You want a treat dispenser | Read the Bites 2 Lite guide first | Hardware suitability comes before financing it |
For treats, start with Bites 2 Lite costs and setup. For a fixed view, the Cam setup guide covers placement. Neither a subscription nor a more expensive camera fixes a view of the wrong corner.
Check the room before committing
Cam requires power and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; Petcube recommends 2 Mbps upload. Its product page lists iOS 14 or later and Android 7.1.2 or later. Check those requirements against the phone and network you will use, and choose a cable route your dog cannot reach.
Point the camera at the bed, crate or doorway you want to observe. If a camera you already own captures that area adequately, try it before buying another one. Saved clips are useful only if they record the relevant space.
Do not choose the bundle if you cannot comfortably fund the commitment, expect to cancel early, or have not established that the camera works in your home. A camera also needs someone who can respond to what it shows. It does not replace a sitter or a care plan.
Before you pay
Write down the final hardware charge, service charge, billing term and delivery total. Check what happens on cancellation, whether a trial renews automatically, and whether the offer is available at your delivery address. Keep a reminder for the renewal decision rather than treating the first-year example as a lifetime price.
