Vittles Vault Pawprint vs Stackable: which size fits your food bag?

Compare nominal food capacity, original-bag storage, lid access and stacking limits before choosing a Vittles Vault container.

Choose Pawprint for a smaller food supply when an upright container fits your cupboard. Consider Stackable when you need larger nominal capacity or want two containers in a vertical arrangement. Measure the actual space and the original food bag before deciding. A pound rating is not a guarantee that every bag of that weight will fit.

Capacity and starting price

US listings checked October 16, 2026 show Pawprint from $34.99 and Stackable from $74.99. Those starting prices refer to different capacities. Confirm the selected size, current price, stock and delivery cost.

Petmate describes both as food-grade HDPE with a threaded double-gasket closure. Those specifications do not extend the food's expiry date or prove absolute pest protection.

Nominal pounds do not guarantee bag fit

Kibble shape and density change how much fits in a container. Keeping food in its original bag also takes space, especially around a folded top. Do not buy a 25-pound bin solely because your bag weighs 25 pounds. Ask for usable capacity and opening measurements, and allow room to close the lid without crushing the bag into the seal.

The Pawprint 15-pound listing gives 12 × 12 × 9.7 inches. Other listing dimensions are not consistent enough to build a dependable full-size footprint comparison. Confirm the exact variant's exterior dimensions and opening with Petmate before planning a tight cupboard fit. Do not assume the 60-pound Stackable dimensions apply to another model.

Measure access as well as floor space

Leave space to remove and replace the lid, scoop a portion and lift the food bag out. A bin that fits below a shelf but cannot open there is not a practical fit. Check whether a full container would be comfortable to move before choosing a larger size.

Petmate recommends a maximum of two Stackable containers. Follow the assembly and stacking instructions, use a stable level location and verify that both lids remain accessible. Two diets can justify two bins, but do not mix foods just to fill a large one. Keep the right bag and feeding information with each supply.

Keep the original bag and clean between bags

The FDA recommends storing dry pet food in its original bag and placing that bag inside a container if desired. Keeping the bag preserves the lot number, best-by date and other information needed if there is a recall. Store food in a cool, dry place.

The FDA also advises washing and thoroughly drying storage containers between bags. Avoid continually topping old food up with new food. A sealed lid does not clean leftover oils or crumbs, and a damp bin is not ready for a fresh bag.

If the original bag will not fit, choose another size or storage arrangement rather than treating the capacity label as a reason to discard useful packaging.

When to skip the purchase

An existing secure, clean container that holds the original bag may already do the job. Buying more storage than you need does not make a large food order better value. Consider how quickly your dog uses the food and follow its storage directions.

Is Stackable the better value?

Only if you need its larger capacity or arrangement. Compare the price for a useful setup, not simply dollars per advertised pound.

Will the container keep food fresh indefinitely?

No. Follow the food's label and best-by guidance. Neither the container nor its gasket resets the food's age.
